From growing up on a farm with limited resources, I learned my work ethic and the need to be self sufficient in tackling basic to difficult tasks. I enlisted in the United States Marine Corp which added the important traits of self discipline and the value of team work. Once entering the private sector I became a diesel mechanic, working in this field for 7 years receiving various certifications and promotions in mechanics, management and safety. Following this I became an independent owner/operator truck driver, through which I became knowledgeable of DOT regulation for compliance. I then stepped back in the hopes of advancing my knowledge and opportunities by becoming lead driver at Central Transport. Responsibilities at this position: overseeing dock safety and management, setting daily delivery/pickup schedules efficiently and maintaining my own route. I then transitioned to Lightning Transportation Inc. As the Safety Manager. In my 7 years with Lightning, I have received more training and certifications, become more knowledgeable of DOT regulation, managed owner/operators, driver orientation, training, correction, financial assistance, financial management, while developing mutual respect. To add to that, I am also a certified equipment inspector and periodically inspect all equipment leased to Lightning Transportation pointing out all CSA violations to be repaired. I negotiate with vendors to acquire the best pricing for parts, labor and national accounts. I handle all roadside inspection reports including all challenges via Data Q's, where I have a 67% win rate. With the implementation of electronic logs I have managed the Omnitracs web portal setup, the device installation as well as training the drivers on proper use and navigation of the mobile device. Furthermore, I set up and manage from start to finish all facets of Lightning's annual safety banquet events at 3 different locations. I have also completed the NATMI Safety Director course, testing at 97%.
