Kevin Scott

Having been raised in an impoverished neighborhood just outside of Cleveland, Ohio, I am all too familiar with the economic and social woes that plague our urban communities. For many years, I have been interested in pursuing a career where I could make a positive impact in such communities. Galvanized by my recent graduation, I am ready to pursue this goal. I am seeking an entry-level social working position with a nonprofit organization. I believe that I am well prepared to take on such a position. My collegiate career focused on international studies with an emphasis on cross cultural communication. This course of study afforded me the opportunity to study in many places around the world. As such, I have a special sensitivity to the complexities of multicultural interaction. I have a strong passion for community service and improving the lives of others. For instance, I currently volunteer with SAGE. SAGE is a non-profit organization that specializes in providing community and support for elderly LGBTQ individuals. Specifically, I participate in the Friendly Visitor Program where volunteers make weekly visits to elderly LGBTQ individuals who are often lonely and in need of friendship. I also worked for the non-profit organization Immigration Equality whose primary purpose is assisting LGBTQ asylum seekers obtain residency.
