Khadiza Hossain, MPH

I received my Master of Public Health degree from George Mason University with a concentration in Global Health. I'm highly skilled in customer relations due to years of work in the retail industry and hospitality. I'm versatile, cooperative, and work excellently in teams. I'm open minded and have the ability to view and analyze a situation or conflict from various points of view. I currently work with Fairfax County Health Department on COVID-19 tracing. I conduct interviews with individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 and those who have been in close contact with someone with a probable or confirmed COVID-19 infection. I assess their symptoms and refer for testing, if necessary. I provide them with information on the illness and public health guidance on how to protect themselves from contracting COVID-19. I enter data into a statewide surveillance system (Virginia Electronic Disease Surveillance System) and utilize the Virginia Immunization Information System to confirm case/contact vaccination statuses. Additionally, I have interned with Arlington County Department of Human Services' Project PEACE. I assisted on creating a domestic violence protocol for Arlington County. Previously, I interned with the International Center for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, an international health research institute located in Bangladesh. I got the opportunity to observe and work with highly skilled public health workers on a project to reduce the drowning of small children in rural areas of the country. I've also worked at Grameen Foundation, a leading non-profit organization focused on empowering the world’s poorest populations through access to financial services and technology, as a marketing and communications intern. I created and posted updates on the company's social media sites on new projects and work being done by Grameen Foundation along with updating the online Marketing Toolkit and other tasks. I do an annual fundraiser to raise money for families living in the slums of Dhaka, Bangladesh, an underdeveloped poverty-stricken nation. The money is used to purchase emergency items. During the last fundraiser over $2000 were raised. I intend to continue this fundraiser in the future and get involved in other philanthropic work. I am passionate about working to alleviate poverty and creating ways to educate and provide accessible health care to vulnerable populations. I am eager to work to make this world a better place and give a voice to those who may not always be treated with respect and equality due to their socioeconomic status.
