I went away to the Lake District as a volunteer on an activities break with Leonard and Cheshire. I was responsible for helping looking after a boy with cerebral palsy. My duties included aiding feeding, bathing and dressing him. In have previously worked as a personal care assistant for a partially deaf and blind 24 year old man. With this job my duties included making him breakfast, lunch, shopping, going to the library and general housework. I also took him to a day centre called Moor Lane. He liked to make pottery and I would be able to read his e-mails for him. The centre is for people with differing disabilities where they are able to do different types of courses and crafts, also to socialise with each other and make friends. I took part in all activities and helped the teacher when needed. I then went on to support two men in they day to day life, e.g. Supporting them to do their banking activities, dealing with petty cash, health and safety risk checks, personal care and giving medication I have worked for a company called Care UK. I worked with 3 young men in their own home helping them with day to day living and their hobbies. In my job I had to deal with challenging behaviour. I learned how to deal with these young men for the time I was working there also learned about Seizures as one of my young men had seizures on a daily basis, having to go on training courses. I have recently taken summer leave from my job to attend a special needs summer camp in the USA called Camp Friendship Ventures. Here I lived with the campers, aged 6 to elderly people, based in cabins. My role was to make sure they enjoyed their holiday by supporting them in activities such as swimming, rock climbing, arts and crafts, etc. On some of these activities I led my group in that particular activity and personal care and on call duties was part of my role.
