About

In December of 2004, Kimberly founded Meghan’s Hope, after losing her 3-year old twin daughter Meghan to a dresser tip-over just one week before Christmas that same year. Her mission is simple, to prevent this tragedy from happening to any other family. Sadly, since Meghan died, hundreds more, mostly children, have died from tip-overs. This has only strengthened her resolve to educate the public and collaborate with stakeholders to prevent tip-overs from injuring or killing anyone else. Kimberly is a gifted, dynamic, and passionate educator and advocate for child and home safety, and is an expert on tip-over prevention. She has turned her tragedy into an effective world-wide educational awareness campaign to prevent furniture tip-over. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from Northeastern University and is also a childbirth educator, CPR instructor, and holds several other certifications. Her professional career has been dedicated to helping others overcome adversity and reach their highest potential in all that she has done. In 2015, Kimberly collaborated with the CPSC and is an Anchor It! Mom and community leader, as well as an active participant in both the CPSC’s Anchor It! Campaign and the ASTM furniture safety sub-committee. In 2018, she became a founding member of Parents Against Tip-Overs (PAT). PAT’s advocacy was featured in the Netflix documentary Broken: Deadly Dressers, in 2019. Ms. Amato has presented and/or exhibited at numerous conferences locally and nationally, including Partners in Perinatal Health, Safe Kids Worldwide, the International Association for Child Safety, and many local groups and organizations, including the AAP and pediatricians, childbirth educators, DPH and DCF workers. She has also been interviewed by numerous local, national, and international TV and print media outlets and is a freelance writer, blogger, and author. In 2012 she published the book she wished someone had given her the day her daughter died, in the hopes it would help other bereaved parents to navigate the profound grief and challenges of losing a child. Kimberly resides in Sterling, MA with her husband and two boys. In her free time, she enjoys ballroom dancing, distance running, and indulging in chocolate. Specialties: Public speaking, grief support, advocacy, CPR/First Aid training, Reiki, management
