About

My philosophy of education follows a growth mindset. I believe that all students have the potential for growth, and that by viewing struggles as positive learning experiences, students can build perseverance. My experience in special education has given me a unique perspective on this, as many of my students have exceeded the growth that was predicted for them, which in turn, gave them renewed confidence. I believe that my job as an educator is to understand each child’s strengths and challenges and to help them understand those as well. Students who know themselves, and how they learn best, will be better able to advocate for themselves with their teachers. Having this self-knowledge also enables students to break tasks into manageable parts to tackle what is more challenging for them. Having to struggle to work through something that a student deems as difficult, will make that student feel a greater level of success when they reach their goal.
