Kirsten Stevenson

Currently, I am a part-time mathematics tutor and mathematics adjunct instructor while staying home to care for my young children. Previously, I was an Assistant Professor of Mathematics, teaching freshman and sophomore students at a rural community college in Oklahoma. I taught courses in PreCalculus, Quantitative Reasoning, and Statistics. My teaching focuses on developing conceptual understanding and critical thinking skills. I strive to help students create connections between the discipline of mathematics and other academic subjects. I also emphasize how the concepts learned in class are relevant to future careers outside of academia. In 2012, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Oklahoma Baptist University, and in 2016, I obtained a Master of Arts degree in Mathematics from the University of Oklahoma. While at OBU and OU, I developed strong skills in Calculus and other mathematical subjects as well as completing courses in Python, Java, C++, and Networking Basics. While at OU, I taught several classes on College Algebra, Trigonometry, and Calculus 1. At Delta Dental, I regularly used my mathematical and problem-solving skills to calculate fiscally responsible quotes that were fair to both the client and Delta Dental. I created monthly reports that provided senior staff with insight as to the current financial well-being of the company as well as any special reports requested by the Sales or Finance teams. Outside of my professional life, I enjoy learning Spanish and American Sign Language. I am currently an advanced-level Spanish speaker and at an intermediate-level in ASL. I love that speaking multiple languages allows me to experience other cultures and connect with people outside of the English-speaking world.
