About
Krishen Mehta was a former partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers from 1989 to 2008 based in the Tokyo office. Since 2009, Krishen has been actively engaged with issues relating to the structural roots of global inequality–the relationship between tax policy, illicit financial flows and poverty–and the effect it has on both developed and developing countries. He served until 2012 as Co-chairman of Global Financial Integrity (GFI), a research and advocacy group at the Center for International Policy in Washington DC. Krishen is currently a Senior Global Justice Fellow at Yale University, and co-teaches a course in the Department of Philosophy on issues relating to global trade, tax, and social justice. Krishen is on the Advisory Board of the Aspen Institute’s Business and Society Program based in New York, serves as a Non-Executive Director of the Tax Justice Network based in London, and is the Founder/Director of Asia Initiatives, a nonprofit that leverages social capital to promote women’s empowerment in Asia and Africa. Krishen was previously on the Asia Advisory Council of Human Rights Watch in New York, and is currently a Trustee of the Japan Foundation of Human Rights Watch in Tokyo. Krishen is also on the Board of The Nation Foundation, which is the educational arm of The Nation magazine. He is a Trustee of the Social Science Foundation at the University of Denver, which provides guidance and support to the Korbel School at the University, He is also a Director of the Institute of Current World Affairs in Washington, DC. He is on the Steering Group of the Independent Commission for Reform of International Corporate Taxation. Krishen also serves as Chairman of SaveLife Foundation devoted to issues of road safety in India. Krishen’s writings have been featured in the International Herald Tribune, the Japan Times, the Dallas Morning News and other publications on issues of tax and global justice. He was previously an Adjunct Professor at American University’s School of International Service, has been a guest speaker at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, the Global Justice Program at Yale University, the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University and at the University of Tokyo. Krishen is also a US qualified Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
