Kristie A. Thomas

Kristie A. Thomas, PhD, MSW is a Professor and the PhD Program Director at Simmons University School of Social Work. Dr. Thomas has extensive practice, teaching, and research expertise in the anti-violence field. Her work focuses on developing and enhancing community-informed programs for people affected by intimate partner violence (IPV)–particularly those who are economically and socially marginalized. Dr. Thomas’ research is applied and collaborative, as evidenced by her work with the Domestic Violence Program Evaluation and Research Collaborative in Massachusetts. She is currently conducting several community-based evaluation projects aimed at improving services for homeless and unstably housed IPV survivors. In addition to a robust portfolio of peer-reviewed articles, Dr. Thomas has authored online trainings and toolkits on IPV that are used widely by researchers and practitioners across the country. Dr. Thomas teaches across the MSW and PhD programs; she was awarded the Provost Award for Student-Centeredness in Graduate Teaching at Simmons University and the Early Career Excellence in Teaching Award by the American Evaluation Association. She served as the MSW Director from 2020-2023 and the MSW Curriculum Director from 2019-2020.
