Kristin De Vivo

I bring a perspective based on over 20 years of experience, from my work as Executive Director of Lucas Education Research (a division of the George Lucas Educational Foundation) and previous roles in education research and program development. I have worked at education-related startups, including Scientific Learning and Leapfrog Enterprises, and in large educational publishing companies, such as Scholastic Inc, in New York City. My work has taken me to school districts in almost every state of the country to observe and learn from best- and worst-case examples of what our country uniformly refers to as “school.” As a result, I have great compassion for the complexity of the work that educators do each and every day. I know there is no one-size-fits-all approach to school transformation; context is everything, and so critical to getting it right. I have watched with keen interest as my son adjusted to middle school during the pandemic. From learning via Zoom, to hybrid classrooms, to Covid contact notifications, it has been a stressful time for all. Now more than ever, our students desire purposeful and consequential opportunities for learning and healing, opportunities that attend equally to their mental well-being and to their academic pursuits.
