About

I'm a writer, editor and photographer who has worked in the media for 20 years. I specialize in home renovation, travel and food, public art and features writing—basically anything with a good story to it. In my career as a journalist, I've contributed to a long list of titles that include Travel + Leisure, Conde Nast Traveler, Parade, This Old House, AFAR, Forbes, Robb Report, Real Simple, Redbook, Southern Living, Glamour, Self, Entrepreneur, The Guardian, USA Today, Travel Channel, Inc., Budget Travel, Spirit, Alaska Airlines magazine, Sherman's Travel, Islands, Destination Weddings & Honeymoons, Country Weekly, the list goes on. In-house positions included Newsweek, Lucky and Entertainment Weekly, among others. I started my career in NYC, flitting around publishing companies—Time Inc., Conde Nast and Wenner Media—then moved to California where I worked on more than a dozen guidebook editions for Frommer's. I also wrote copy for Visit California, the state's official tourism board, and covered the Bay Area for PEOPLE magazine as a correspondent. During my stint in California, I traveled far and wide on other magazine assignments, from the Cook Islands to the Arctic to Rwanda, and circumnavigated the globe as an employee of Semester at Sea.Since 2012, I've been back living in Tennessee, where the bulk of my time is spent writing and tackling large photography projects in rural regions; lobbying for artists through the nonprofit DMA-events, Inc. I run with my husband; and managing the travel blog, Camels & Chocolate (www.camelsandchocolate.com), that I founded in 2007. In my downtime, Scott and I buy fixer-uppers we renovate ourselves; projects have includes an 1800s Queen Anne, an all-cedar midcentury modern beauty and a handful of 1920s-circa structures.
