A four year old child is found in the service department. That is where he spent most of the afternoon. Observing the technicians perform repairs was much more interesting than the negotiations on price. His parents found the "perfect" olive green Pontiac Bonneville station wagon with wood grain trim. He found a passion for the automobile and mechanical devices. Throughout elementary and middle school, I would continue to visit automotive dealerships, service stations, and bicycle shops. I quizzed the sales staff on model specifications. I handed mechanics the wrench they needed. I learned about the details of running a business. After reaching working age, I detailed cars, worked a service station's counter, and held the assistant manager position at a clothing retailer. Most of my checks were spent on small improvements to my bicycle or automobile. In university, I secured a cooperative education position with Honda of America Manufacturing. Working with this industry leader on quality issues continued into full-time employment. I evaluate problems, develop procedures, conduct tests, and apply countermeasures to produce an improved product everyday. Fortunately, I have the opportunity to do this outside of work, as well.
