Lara Natalie Mullins

I am currently working across two firms, Schuler Heerschop Pienaar Inc and Jeff Gowar Inc, which both fall under the same directorship. My work over the last two years has been focused predominantly on Banking and Finance Law, although due to the fact that we are a general litigation firm I have also done work in various other areas of Law (Contract Law, Family Law, Criminal Law & Refugee Law). My Research Paper on the Ramifications of Reservations to Multilateral Human Rights Treaties was published by an International Law Journal. I am passionate about legal research, drafting and writing content and articles related to legal and political topics. Furthermore, I find great joy in helping others and utilizing my skills and knowledge to assist and inform those around me. Before studying I was an Intern for the Democratic Alliance where I was tasked predominantly with research and community liaison although my roll and responsibilities grew over time. I completed my Bachelor of Arts Degree with majors in English, History and Politics in 2015 and my Bachelor of Laws Degree in 2020. Both my degrees were completed at the University of Cape Town. During my studies I held down many jobs and volunteered my time at Legal Clinics on campus, principally the UCT Refugee Rights Clinic. I was also the Vice-chairperson and Secretary of a Campus society called Ikeyability which advocated for students with disabilities and worked to create inclusion and change on campus. To fund my legal qualifications, I used my Bachelor of Arts degree and was a teacher for British International School based in Milan. I taught Business English to professionals across a multitude of sectors and University students, whom I also assisted with academic research and writing. Further to this, I also operated my own company which was a teaching platform for High School and University students looking for extra help with subjects. Upon beginning my legal career, I resigned from directorship of the company to focus on my new path.
