Laura Barnett

I am an Existential psychotherapist with 20 years experience of working in the NHS as counsellor, supervisor and trainer. I set up and ran a counselling service for cancer patients and their relatives, as well as a pioneering psychological aftercare service for intensive care patients, both in the NHS. I now work privately face-to-face from home in Lewes, Sussex, as well as online. My private work is general, both short term (fewer than 6 sessions) and longer term (months or years.) I have a strong interest in the way we carry, in our bodies, past traumas as well as the stresses of everyday life, and I integrate into my existential work understanding derived from my other trainings: mos particularly from Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (a neurologically informed, body-focused trauma therapy), and systemic constellations. I also have a special interest in the dialogue between existential philosophy and therapeutic practice. I have contributed articles and chapters on existential therapy and supervision, edited two books and authored "The Heart of Therapy: Developing Compassion, Understanding & Boundaries" (Routledge, April 2023)
