My path w/touch began when I took a reflexology certification course (1996). That course also taught the benefits of combining Aroma Therapy w/Reflexology, incorporating the senses of both touch & smell in order to enhance the session. I added a diploma in Vibrational Healing (1999) which includes knowledge in the fields of Color Therapy & Flower Essence Energies. In 2003, I graduated from The Academy of Somatic Healing Arts (ASHA), adding certifications in Swedish & Neuromuscular Therapy. My studies at ASHA also provided Deep Tissue, Sports Massage, & Hydrotherapy skills. In 2004, I became nationally certified by the NCBTMB while continuing education has enabled me to become knowledgeable in the fields of Reiki, Chair Massage & Hot Stone Therapy.Regarding my stance on massage therapy, I have a 3-pronged approach – education, communication, & customer service – & these are all intertwined. Education provides the client w/understanding of what is currently going on in their lives as it relates to their health. Stretching exercises, Epsom salt soaks, & sharing my knowledge with clients enables clients to take control of their life rather than being totally dependent on my services. Additionally, communication (especially listening!) is a vital part in the client/therapist relationship. Specific questions on my part allow me to best tailor a session to fit what the client needs. Oftentimes, it is my responsibility to note what is not being said & to read between the lines for additional information. Listening inspires trust, & the best energy is transmitted when the client is open to receive. Finally, customer service incorporates not only education & communication but also goes further – it is compassion for the client, & the desire to serve. Following up to make sure the client received the best session possible & to ask for feedback on how to improve.
