About
Experience: seabird research • avian ecology and conservation • wildlife tracking • physiology • seabirds & marine issues • remote field experience and logistics • data analyses • spatial mapping • technical writing & editing • outreach communications • teaching I am an ornithologist with a strong background in seabird ecology and conservation, and have a keen interest in promoting science that supports wildlife management and conservation decisions. I've been hooked on birds since my first field job, mistnetting songbirds in the forests of New Brunswick; but soon afterward, the glamour of the seabird colony captured my attention. I have happily weathered remote field research on rocky coastlines and stormy islands, on both east and west coasts of Canada. My education has included work with forest songbirds (BSc, University of New Brunswick), seabird physiology (MSc, Simon Fraser University) and multi-colony seabird tracking (PhD, Memorial University), and I have worked as a research associate and consultant in the field of seabird ecology and conservation (Simon Fraser University, Environment Canada, BC Conservation Federation, Department of Fisheries and Oceans). I currently work at Bird Studies Canada, managing the bird conservation programs in the Atlantic Canada region.
