Leonard Gawecki

Leonard completed a degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Sydney in 1983 and entered the Shell Oil Company under the graduate recruitment program to design and install Auto LPGas stations throughout NSW. In 1985 Leonard joined the NSW Department of Planning as a risk analyst and rose to Team Leader pf the Major Hazards Unit. The MHU developed safety policies and assessed major industrial development using SAFETI software. Leonard then moved into risk consulting with diverse groups such as Munich Re, AON, ERM, Arthur D Little and Jardine Matheson. Leonard has over 20 years experience as a consultant and advisor in risk analysis and risk management, HAZOP / HAZAN, ETA, FTA, QRA and land use safety planning, and is the currently a board member of the Australian Institute of Dangerous Goods Consultants( AIDGC). The AIDGC is an independent industry body that exists for the benefit of the dangerous goods industry, regulatory authorities, government, business and the general community. There are over 60 professional members who offer dangerous goods related services. Leoanrd has developed Fields of Special Competence over his 20 year tenure in :  Qualitative and Quantitative Risk Assessment studies (QRA) for Oil / Gas / Energy and Manufacturing facilities  Safety in design studies ( HAZOP / HAZAN / FTA / ETA / CIMAH Safety Case studies)  Fire safety studies and Emergency Plans  SEPP 33 Risk assessments and Preliminary Hazard Analysis studies.  Project risk management reviews to AS 4360/ ISO 31000 for Fortune 500 companies  Dangerous Goods Assessments & Workplace Risk Assessments (WRA) Leonard was previously employed at SKM as the NSW Project Risk Manager , and was also practice leader for Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA).
