I graduated from the Department of Oriental Studies, St.Petersburg National University in Russia, where I majored in Korean History and Language. In 1994-1996, I worked as interpreter for the South Korean National Soccer Team and participated in the 26th Olympic Games in Atlanta. Between 1996 and 2002, I worked on the doctoral thesis “Socio-economic School and the Formation of North Korean Official Historiography” at the Australian National University in Canberra. While conducting my post-doctoral research at the Academy of Korean Studies in Seongnam, I also taught Korean History at the Intercultural Institute of California in San Francisco and Keimyung University in Daegu. In 2006/2007, I was Chair of Korean Studies at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po) in France, where I taught Socio-economic History of East Asia. Between 2009 and 2012, I taught Korean History, Society and Language at the University of Sydney. Currently, I teach Cross-cultural Management and other business-related courses at the International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS). I worked on a number of projects sponsored by the Australian Research Council (ARC): “Historical Conflict and Reconciliation in East Asia” (2007-2009, ANU), “Northeast Asia and the Korean War: Legacies of Hot and Cold Wars in Contemporary Constructions of the Region” (2011-2017, ANU); and “North Korea’s Quiet Transformation” (2013~, UTS). My academic interests include Business in Northeast Asia, Inter-Korean Conflict and Cooperation, Immigration, Border Control, and Human Rights.
