About
I have taught for over 25 years in secondary and primary schools, in both the private and public sectors. In that time, I have gained a wealth of experience in education and developed my skills in teaching and facilitating learning, working with a range of professionals and outside specialists to successfully manage and motivate others - both students and colleagues. As Head of Department, I manage a Department of 7 staff, working closely with other middle managers in the Science Department as well as SLT. Responsibilities are numerous and include planning and running meetings, mentoring new staff, leading the Biology teaching team and ensuring all students studying Biology (including over 120 at A level) are given the support and learning opportunities they require. I am a confident public speaker and presenter, happily addressing large numbers, if required. Over the last few years, I have also worked with Astra SCITT as a visiting tutor for trainee teachers and as a Biology subject tutor. This has enabled me to expand my knowledge of education further and required staff to be interviewed and regular progress reports to be written. My participation with local theatre companies and attendance of numerous drama courses has widened my knowledge and skills and I love to use these in my work. I am currently seeking to explore new challenges and opportunities, possibly beyond the traditional school teaching environment and potentially utilising my earlier business experience.
