I now spend most of my time as an independent neutral, available on four continents for arbitration and mediation. I act as arbitrator (named by parties, the ICC, HKIAC, ICDR, SIAC and other institutions), in a variety of international cases including construction, insurance, sales agreements (CISG) and shareholder disputes in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Canada. I have also done scores of domestic insurance arbitrations and sit on IIROC panel in Canada. Frequently law firms involved in international arbitration for the first time call on me to act either as co-counsel or as a discreet consultant in arbitration practice and procedure. I also train professional arbitrators and conduct assessments for the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators, as well as for law school graduate programmes in Europe, Canada, North and South America, and of course, Hong Kong and other countries n Asia. In 2014 I led the first VEMF Capacity Building Project, to train Cambodian law students in international law and arbitration. Two more took place in 2015 and 2016. In 2017-19 the team visited Myanmar, and intends to target a third country once travel restrictions permit..
