Luis Gilberto Torres

My basic training is as a chemical engineer, working a few years in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry (3 in total) and decided to study a master's degree in Biotechnology at UNAM and a PhD in Environmental Ing, also at UNAM. Since then I have spent working in teaching and research. My subjects of study have been: fermentations. Rheology, mixing and mass transfer, use of surfactants in environmental Ingineering, characterization and treatment of municipal and industrial wastewater. UV disinfection and ozone. Characterization and treatment of soils contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons, pesticides or metals. Physico-chemical and biological methods. Preparation of emulsions with different purposes. Nowadays I am immersed in the project Produccion of algal biomass, in closed and open bioreactors. Microalgae culture, harvesting by sedimentation coagulation-flocculation. Algae paste characterization by oscillatory rheology and viscometry. Isolation and characterization of proteins, lipids and pigments producend in Spirullina and Chlorella.
