Martin is a fourth generation stone and masonry person. He was Vice-President of Stecklow Bros., Inc. A stone and masonry construction firm [started by his father, Thomas and Uncle, William] from 1960 to 1972. He and his brothers then started Thomason Industries Corp., specializing in stone, masonry and building preservation. Mr. Stecklow was active in many trade organizations for over fifty years and is a past President of The Building Stone Institute. As a principal of Thomason Industries, a major construction and restoration firm, he led them to pursue bids on restoration projects for various agencies including: The Smithsonian Institution; National Parks Service; General Services Administration; N.Y.C. Parks Department and The N.Y.C. Department of General Services, and U.S. General Services Agency.. His passion for the restoration industry and for historic preservation allowed him to be involved in an active role as a hands-on Supervisor in charge of major projects such as the Renovation and Restoration to: The Brooklyn Borough Hall, The Main U.S. Post Office and The Bethesda Terrace and Fountain at Central Park, New York; The Renwick Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.; and The Soldiers and Sailors Monument in Put-in-Bay, Ohio. Since closing Thomason Industries in 1990, he has been an Owners Rep., Inspector of roofing and masonry restoration for two engineering firms, and as a consultant to several small and mid sized waterproofing and restorations firms. He is currently active as a NYC licensed Site Safety Manager, and as an OSHA Outreach Construction Trainer. He mentored as a consultant to Capital Restoration & Construction.
