Matthew Emerson is an anthropologist with over 40 years of experience in teaching, higher education, research, and curriculum development. He has a strong background in historical, archaeological, and ethnographic investigation, as well as artifact analysis. About
I am an anthropologist with an employment history of studying and teaching about different cultures engaged in diasporas out of Africa. My research expertise includes historical, archaeological and ethnographic investigation and artifact analysis revealing cultural insights that reach beyond archival documentation. I have designed and led multi-year field research programs in the US and Nigeria and have engaged the public in my research. I have served as a department chair and curriculum/training expert for a large social science organization serving both traditional and adult online learners. I am an accomplished public speaker and have addressed audiences at highered institutions and public events in the USA, Jamaica and Nigeria. I am currently affiliated with the Register of Professional Archaeologists as Chairperson of a Field school certification and scholarship awards committee. I also currently serve as Chair of a new Professional Development Committee at the Registry. Deeper in my employment history, I have a technical background in UNIX and technical publications experience in user, programmer, administrator and marketing documentation. My colleagues would describe me as a thoughtful researcher and compassionate leader who is excited about new ways of thinking about the processes of teaching/training and learning. Currently, I am also seeking new opportunities that make use of my broad teaching and administrative experiences that will allow me to inspire corporate learning and encourage coworker and customer development.
