Currently I teach two sections of ninth grade Honors Biology (college level for non-majors), and two sections of Anatomy & Physiology (an elective course open to juniors and seniors). I have taught regular biology many times over the years. The laboratory component of the Honors Biology course has evolved over the last few years. I worked with our Head of Senior School, Jon Cassie, to develop "Lab Challenges," where I pre-mix the contents of test tubes (spectrophotometer cuvettes) and then the lab groups must determine, through data collection, the contents of the tubes. This works particularly well for the cellular respiration lab and the photosynthesis lab. The students respond well to these challenges - they enjoy collecting data, and then presenting their results and conclusions to their peers.
