I'm an Army veteran and skilled professional with over 15 years experience in IT as a desktop support technician, system administrator and security analyst. I've recently transitioned into the cybersecurity field and currently work as a security operations center (SOC) analyst with Texas Capital Bank in the Dallas metro area. I've been a SOC analyst for over 2 years and in that time I've gained experience with a number of SIEM tools, vulnerability scanners and endpoint protection platforms. Event investigation and threat remediation are also skills I've gained in the past 2 years. I've used these skills to gain useful experience in security operation and to move closer to my career goals in the field. My near-term goal is to obtain a position as SOC analyst in the next 18 to 24 months. I plan to obtain my EC Council Certified Incident Handler certification as well as my Global Certified Intrusion Analyst (GCIA) certification from SANS to help hone my knowledge of incident response techniques and intrusion detection. These skills will assist me with my future plans in information security. I’m currently enrolled in the Digital Forensics and Cyber Investigations master’s degree program at the University of Maryland University College. Once I complete my master’s degree I wish to obtain a position as an incident responder and forensic investigator. I plan to complete this objective in the next two to three years. It’s my belief that obtaining this master’s degree will better prepare me for a position in a leadership role as well as provide me with the highly technical skills needed for a forensics position. Finally, with a number of years and job positions under my belt, I plan to obtain my CISSP certification and to someday lead a cyber Red Team.
