Nancy Cantor

Nancy Cantor is president and chancellor of Syracuse University. Prior to her appointment at Syracuse, she served as chancellor of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of Michigan; dean of the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies and vice provost for academic affairs at the University of Michigan; chair of the department of psychology at Princeton University. She has co-authored and coedited several books, and is the author and co-author of numerous book chapters and scientific journal articles. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, and a member of the National Academies Roundtable on Science and Technology for Sustainability. She received the Distinguished Scientific Award for an Early Career Contribution to Psychology from the American Psychological Association, the Woman of Achievement Award from the Anti-Defamation League, the Making a Difference for Women Award from the National Council for Research on Women, and the Frank W. Hale, Jr. Diversity Leadership Award from the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education. She received her AB in 1974 from Sarah Lawrence College and her PhD in Psychology in 1978 from Stanford University. Her fields of specialization are personality and social psychology, and personality and cognition.
