Nelson Ndlala

Nelson Ndlala began his mining career in the late 80’s as a Learner Official Mining at Gold Fields Training Services. He completed his training and studies and was appointed a Shiftboss in early 1992. In 1996, became a Mine Overseer; in 1999 he was appointed Business Unit Manager at Driefontein and in 2003, he was transferred to Beatrix as Manager Mining of 2 & 2B shafts. In 2005, he joined Impala Platinum as Mine manager. In 2008 he was appointed General Manager of 6, 7A, 7, 8 shafts and the Open pit. In 2010 he was promoted to Senior General Manager responsible for Group Technical Services and Best Practice. In 2012,he has been appointed as a director onto the Impala Holdings Limited and Two Rivers (Pty) Ltd subsidiary boards. In 2013 Nelson was appointed Executive Mining at the Rustenburg Operations in charge of shafts from 1- 10 shafts. In November 2013 , Nelson was appointed Head of Operations: Rustenburg. In 2018 Nelson joined Northam Platinum Limited. He is a Mining/Operations Executive responsible for mining, processing and all projects. In October 2019 Nelson was appointed as Chairman of the board of African Exploration Mining and Finance Corporation. Nelson has various industry certificates. He has an MBL degree from the University of South Africa and a Mining Engineering degree from the University of Johannesburg. Nelson has completed various programs such as: • General Management Program (Harvard Business School, Boston: Massachusetts ) • Mining and the Environment (Lulêa Technical University, Sweden) • Management Advancement Program ( Wits Business School, Johannesburg) Nelson is registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ESCA) as Professional Certificated Engineer. He is a member of the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM). He has served as council member of the Association of Mine Managers of South Africa (AMMSA). He has been elected Vice President in 2012 and the President of the Association in 2013.
