Nicholas Cavanaugh

Nicholas Cavanaugh is an independent consultant previously employed as a quantitative analyst at various energy commodities hedge funds. In the fund space, he focussed on pricing the impacts of weather variability on energy markets using a combination of quantitative/statistical and fundamental modeling. He is currently pursuing a new weather analytics venture. Broadly, Nicholas is an expert in weather and climate variability, predictability, and extremes. He has a particular focus on applications within the financial sector. Topics of specific interest are the impact of weather on consumer behavior, climate change & insurance, electricity demand response, and the intersection of the energy & water complexes. Nicholas holds an MS and PhD from the University of California San Diego's Scripps Institution of Oceanography, as well as a BAS from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Engineering and Applied Science.
