About
In April 2023 I took over the role of Editor for Rye News, a digital weekly newspaper and a role which keeps me busy!! In March 2020 I was Manager for the Rye Heritage Centre. As a charity we took the business and building over from Rye Town Council and have worked hard behind the scenes to get it ready for reopening, now that restrictions have easaed and the pandemic appears to be under control.. Having waited so long to open I decided to resign my position aa there was nothing further i could do but at least I completed what I set out to do and managed to get the centre to a position where it could reopen once more. I was also a regular contributor to Rye News, writing weekly articles about all sorts of subjects which keeps me involved locally and I help to promote businesses, events and news stories. I have been developing property on a small scale and enjoy the hands on approach and much prefer getting my sleeves rolled up rather than sitting behind a desk!! Formally an estate agent with over 33 years experience in residential and commercial property,18 of which with Freeman Forman looking after higher value property across East Sussex and the Kent Weald. My career started in West London covering Richmond, Putney, Barnes, Kew and Hampton Court. Windsor was my next stop then Wraysbury, Datchet and Weybridge. Redundancy in 1988 brought me to East Sussex working initially for Braxtons in Uckfield then Tenterden, Rye, Battle and Northiam before returning to Battle in 1996 when I joined my brother Simon at Freeman Forman as associate partner. After leaving college I served in the Armed forces as a musician for 8 years travelling the world and included a year at The Royal Military School of Music at Kneller Hall. Bass trombone was my instrument but I also played in fanfare teams, trad band, dance band, oompah band whilst in Germany and a variety of other groups. I have many other interests and I am a keen supporter of St Michael's Hospice where I served for 10 years on the board of directors on their Lottery and Trading companies. Collecting is a passion of mine, trawling charity shops and auctions and it amazes me as to what you can find.
