Nigel Cox DipWSET

Im currently looking for job opportunities in the wine trade within driving distance of Exeter having just lost my employment as assistant manager of a wine retailer in Ilminster. I worked in the business for two years and enjoyed meeting the people locally. Being involved with the all aspects of the running of the shop it was a shame my employment had to finish but all good things come to an end and new challenges await I’m sure. Having passed the Wset Diploma course in 2010 I had not been able to commit to following the path that I have wanted to follow that of a wine trade professional. This has been due to a week job in the printing trade which I have work in since leaving school in 1974. Yes that is 43 years in the same type of job. But things change these days and the printing company I worked with fell on hard times and very soon closed their doors for the last time. I have worked in vineyards /wineries in the UK and very much enjoy being out in the vineyards or assisting as a cellar rat. I attended a 2 week Principles in Winemaking and Vineyard management course at Plumpton to help with this. Some of the other jobs I have undertaken are working in merchants business in retail.Judged at the IWC and IWSC also I regularly attend tasting to keep up to date with the latest trends. I have worked on Saturdays for Laithwaites Wines running two concessions at Wyevale Garden Centres. One at Cadburys near Congressbury Nr Bristol and the other at Cheddar Garden Centre Nr Cheddar. I very much enjoyed talking to customers about the wines on the concessions as i feel that education is the way forward to inform people on what is in the bottle these days. Also customers like the interaction with a knowledgable person to point them in the right direction before a purchase as far as our wines are concerned. The above led me to work as assistant manager in the small retail wine business in Ilminster which I enjoyed very much.A different environment for me but one I like to thing I did to the best of my ability. Im a friendly, helpful and easy going person and look forward to hearing if any job opportunities arise. Thanks for reading Nigel Cox DipWSET
