Norma Young

At the time, I didn’t know that I was contributing towards my 10 thousand hours, but when I was about 10 years old, I decided to write a book. It was the December school holidays and I had already finished all the books I’d taken out from the library. So in the absence of new literature to enjoy, I followed the logical steps of writing my own material so I would have something to read. In the years since then, I have moved on from writing about thrilling mysteries at a fictional boarding school. What has however remained, is an ardent passion for storytelling. For the past couple of years, I've focused on content that is educational while also being inspirational. Working at Oprah magazine for nearly five years and then at Ndalo Media magazine for nearly five years enabled me to participate in work that I found meaningful, impactful and immensely enjoyable. Having spent the initial years of my journalism career in broadcast journalism, the past few years have been dominated by digital media. At Ndalo Media and as a freelancer, I've particularly enjoyed multimedia content strategising and production. From podcasts to bespoke video channels to social media stories, I've found it to be an exciting time to be in the field of communicating and connecting. My personal interests as both a consumer and creator include entrepreneurship, education, social justice and travel.
