Nynke Schaap

After years in private sector consultancy, I shifted to the development sector, following my passion to support communities enhancing climate/livelihood resilience, increase adaptive capacity and prevent resorting to negative coping mechanisms. I have done this in Iraq (13 months) and do so currently in Yemen and (my new station) South Sudan. I have a background in Arabic Language and Culture (BA) and Environmental Communication and Management (MSc), the latter being about the interaction between people and the environment. My biggest drive has always been to connect people and build bridges between cultures and disciplines. Fields in which I love doing this most are the Climate Peace Security and Water Peace Security. When I can link this to opportunities to improve Livelihoods (or Food Security Livelihoods), I get even more excited. I love working on these topics as project leader and technical advisor, but also as facilitator and in combination with stakeholder engagement. I am an insightful thinker, who sees through situations and people effectively and enjoys developing practical strategies for action. I am a committed, hard-working and versatile manager, who loves to learn and is perfectly capable of handling workplace challenges. Communicating is one of my biggest strengths and I am always ready to encourage others and promote an atmosphere of mutual respect.
