Olivia Blasdel

As an Environmental Scientist at GBMc & Associates, I help conduct data collection and data analysis of environmental air and water projects. My credentials include advanced academic courses in biology, chemistry, and environmental science related studies paired with lab experience, field experience, and campus involvement. Alongside academics, my work experience includes field work in aquatic settings, primarily streams, rivers, and estuaries, and from these I have grown as a naturalist and a researcher. I recently completed the Semester in Environmental Science at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA where I gained field and laboratory experience in aquatic and terrestrial biogeochemistry. With this experience, I performed an independent research project that investigated the variation in dissolved nitrogen in groundwater and 15N isotopes in groundwater and organisms as indicators of wastewater pollution in estuaries. From this, I learned field and laboratory techniques, including nutrient analysis, stable isotope analysis, and water sampling. Unrelated to science, I worked two seasons as a ride operator and two seasons as an attractions supervisor at Holiday World & Splashin' Safari, managing up to 20 crew members each day in an outdoor theme park. This experience developed my interpersonal, teamwork, and managerial skills while working in a busy, energetic environment. I enjoy working in a team environment and look forward to a career in environmental science.
