I am a charismatic and meticulous actuary and data professional working in the P&C commercial insurance space. I have experience in these large pillars:1) ratemaking and rate filings;2) reserving and statutory financial reporting;3) forecasting and internal business planning;4) architecting a robust enterprise data infrastructure;5) analysis, report, and dashboard design.My title is director; I prefer being a team captain -- playing the game with the team. I enjoy the day-to-day, being shoulder-to-shoulder with my team, writing the code, being present in design sessions, and really understanding problems so that I can design generalized and fireproof ("it will always work") solutions. Architecture or "systems" design is my sweet spot.I strive to be a role model and a real leader (I don't want to be Bill Lumbergh from Office Space). All this is only part of the battle though; I can assemble business leaders and other stakeholders (oftentimes with differing opinions and perspectives) onto a unified platform to make business decisions.I am an actuary by trade; but I realized very quickly in my career that actuaries (and other analysts and data scientists) are the beneficiaries of an intentional data ecosystem. Actuaries and data scientists should not be spending 80% of their time acquiring, mining, cleansing, and transforming data. But, of course, we all know it's easier said than done.Data is an unforgiving and perpetual test of willpower. You can't be lazy with it because the moment you are, your company becomes like the rest--wanting to be a sexy, data-driven organization, but unwilling to put up the constant work.Our data & analytics team here at Coterie is not lazy with it. We are utilizing industry best practices; our pipelines are built flexibly and modularly; we are using structured and unstructured data; our information delivery game is on point; our relationships with the business, frontend, and backend teams are tight; and we are always attacking problems by analyzing all angles.Alliteration aside, there's a lot of tough love, but my purpose is to provide a rich and structured environment, and constantly push our data & analytics team.
