Osvaldo Rodriguez

I am a current first-generation student at the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL). After completing my Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, I plan on returning back to school to complete a Master of Science in Systems Engineering. My purpose is to become a successful engineer, work in the industry, and aid with space exploration, flight operations, and the advancement of humanity and our planet. After two years in the education field, I developed my soft skills but am finding myself to be consistently improving as a leader, active listener, and teammate as I have progressed in engineering. Additionally, engineering has allowed me to improve on my technical skills. If you had asked me two years ago about anything STEM related or dealing with the Computer Science discipline, I would have looked at you funny. Being exposed to these classes and pushing myself to be the best engineering student possible has allowed me to gain invaluable experience within these areas that will make me a valuable asset in the industry.At UHCL, I have learned to take advantage of the resources that they have to offer. Through Pathways to STEM Careers, The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and Career Services, I have been able to hone my skills. I use these skills on a daily basis, whether it be at a team meeting, managing conflict resolution on a project, or studying. I can attribute my successes and failures to the internships, organizations, and research that I have been fortunate to partake in, as well as my persistence and evolving mentality.
