I have wanted to practice law pretty much all my life and employment law has proved to be the icing on the cake. When I was interviewed because my El Paso high school had chosen me to go to Girls State in Austin, I said that I wanted to go to the University of Texas School of Law, graduate, and have a private practice for my entire career. And that is what I have had the good fortune of being able to do. After graduating with honors from law school, I missed the Southwest, so my husband and I headed to Phoenix and never looked back. I initially chose to work in a small litigation firm blessed with having what could be called, big firm clients. For years, my practice was devoted to straight civil litigation. No personal injury or medical malpractice, but pretty much everything else. There were many lawsuits, lots of trials, and a number of appeals. Over time, business clients began seeking me out for advice in other areas. I was particularly interested in helping business and individual clients become proactive in their employment-related matters - stopping issues before they had to fester and become claims. Examining situations to determine whether there is harassment or discrimination, independent contractor status supplies, an employee truly is exempt, or overtime is being fairly compensated is something I do on a regular basis. If I am called after a matter already has reached the claim, charge, or litigation stage, my years of litigation and dispute resolution make me a valuable resource for reaching the best result.
