About

Thirty-six years of raising and supporting my daughter with Down syndrome and a career that paralleled her life in many ways. From 2001 to 2012 I was the Policy and then Deputy Director of the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities and coordinated what was considered one of the more successful legislative advocacy campaigns, Unlock the Waiting List! to build resources for home and community based supports. Three other projects of which I am particularly proud: Starting the College Programs for young adults with intellectual disabilities; Partnerships for Success, a federal grant to provide self-determination training, social and community engagement opportunities for HS youth with disabilties; and a federal grant that jump started Real Communities, the ABCD project that includes people with disabilities in initiatives that their communities determine to work on. All these initiatives are still going. In 2013 I had the honor of serving as the Kennedy Fellow in Senator Jay Rockefeller's Office and supported the launch of the Long Term Care Commission, worked on CHIP reauthorization, Medicaid and Medicare policy among other issues. In 2014 I became a Program Specialist at the Administration for Community Living where I worked primarily on the roll out of the Home and Community-Based settings rule and family support policy.Six years ago Labor Day I began work as Disability Policy Engagement Director at Anthem. I am fortunate to be able to continue my work and interests in supporting people with disabilities and older adults to live with appropriate support and dignity in the community. At Anthem we meet people where they live, listen to them describe their resources, capacities and needs, and collaborate with community-based organizations and state entities to build access to health care and social drivers of health resources. I have been particularly focused on caregiver supports, food insecurity solutions and supports for adults experiencing Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.
