I have two main areas of research. The first is investigating the role metals play in DNA mutations in E. coli, and in particular, manganese, which is used by organisms to combat oxidative stress.The second is the conjugation of native amino acids onto the surface of semiconductor nanoparticles. My students have presented at the Southern California Conferences for Undergraduate Research (SCCUR), Southern California Undergraduate Research Conference (SCURC) sponsored by the American Chemical Society (ACS), and the ACS National Meeting. I teach the following classes: General Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry Laboratory, Physical Chemistry Laboratory, and Instrumental Methods.
