Paul Wilk

Retired Fire Chief with 26 years of experience as a professional fire fighter in the City of Hamtramck. A career in the fire service included promotions through the ranks from fire fighter, motor engineer, lieutenant, fire marshal, to the top position of Fire Chief. The Fire Chief responsibilities include the overall operations of the fire department; supervising all fire department employees, conducting interviews, make hiring recommendations, and developing policies & procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state and local ordinances. Paul has achieved an associate’s degree in Business Management, attended and successfully completed the Eastern Michigan University School of Fire Staff and Command, an Executive Leadership Program, National Fire Protection Association Fire Inspector 1 certification, Pro Board Certified Fire Investigator, and Fire Officer 1, 2, &3. State licensed Emergency Medical Technician, Fire Fighter 1 & 2 certified, National Incident Management System certified, and Diversity training. During his time as Fire Chief; The City of Hamtramck Fire Department ISO audit was completed and improved which lowered the cost of Business and Homeowner’s insurance rates. The Fire Department was awarded grants to sustain employees and purchase needed firefighting equipment. A three city automatic aide agreement was entered into to increase the number of fire fighters and fire apparatus responding to an emergency to meet NFPA 1710 standards. Paul brought Destination America to Hamtramck to celebrate the 4th of July, which restarted the tradition of fireworks in the city. His community memberships included the Hamtramck Anti-drug Coalition, Hamtramck Community Initiative, The Hamtramck Goodfellows group that support the citizens of Hamtramck, and a board member of the Hamtramck Historical Stadium. Professional memberships include the Michigan Fire Inspectors Society, and the Macomb County Fire Inspectors.
