I am a dispute resoluion lawyer and have considerable experience and understanding of disputes, how to prevent them from arising and how to resolve them quickly and successfully when they do. According to the Legal 500 publication, I have 'excellent communication skills'. I handle claims both in the commercial context and also between individuals, particularly where there is a disagreement over assets between members of a wider or extended family. I have represented clients of all sizes, from the smallest web-based business to national supermarket chains, a Premiership rugby club and an investment organisation purchasing a complete farm of wind turbines. I have considerable experience of advising companies and private individuals as to the strategies they should follow, the steps they should take and the measures they should put in place in order to maximise the potential of their position within the dispute. My dispute resolution experience includes complex cases before a range of courts, and multi party litigation involving hundreds of individual clients. I am able to assist clients to stop disputes arising, to resolve them on the best and most commercial terms achievable if they do begin, and to take cases to ultimate decision by a court or tribunal where that has to be done. I qualified as a solicitor in 1988. I then worked for many years for Clarke Willmott, most recently in the litigation and then commercial departments at that firm's Bristol office, taking a key role in the early days of its IP team. I was responsible for the firm's own IT for many years and sat on the management board. Having joined Battens in 2009 as a director, I am now head of the Litigation and Commerce Division.
