Peter Menkhorst

Peter has over 35 years experience in ecological research, survey and management of Victoria’s mammal and bird faunas, having worked in a range of roles in the Victorian Government’s environment department since 1976. Thus he has been exposed to a great many natural resource management issues and their resolution. He has a strong background in leading multi disciplinary teams, including field survey and research teams, and threatened species recovery teams. He has prepared numerous national recovery plans for threatened birds and mammals, as well as Victoria's Koala management strategy. He currently leads the Waterbirds and Wetlands program at ARI, Amongst his many publications are a definitive book on Victorian mammals and the 'Field Guide to the Mammals of Australia'; a companion guide to Australian birds is in preparation.
