About
My professional background and interests are in geochemistry, mineralogy, study of mineral deposits, igneous petrology, volcanology. I am now (as of October 2020) retired from the U.S. Geological Survey. My most recent position there had been in public communications and community & educational outreach for the USGS--helping to explain to the rest of the country--the public, industry, professional groups, educators, young people, and new media, what the USGS is and does and what information it can provide access to that would be of value to them. I'm on the organizing committee and co-chair of the annual Colorado Science [Teachers] Conference, held in mid-November. I am the newsletter editor for the Colorado Scientific Society and the Colorado Chapter of Friends of Mineralogy, and I am also the president of the Friends of the Colorado School of Mines Museum. I produce and circulate a periodic e-newsletter listing lectures, field trips, educational opportunities, and other public events for all interested persons in the earth science, science education, and amateur & professional geological communities.
