I started the first Audio Visual Staging & rental company here in Wellington NZ after working for Marmalade Video when they were acquired by a new owner and thought that the rentals division of the company had no future. Try us next time you forget that one special item.As an Entertainer I played drums for a few bands but soon worked out that singing and the single microphone were much easier to carry around and set up and was quickly snapped up by Brent Murphy of Frontier Recording Studios to play percussion and backing vocals in a few semi-professional covers bands where I was in control of the backing tracks and samplers. I would play the drums and percussion standing upright, this technology was far ahead of its time 25 years ago and it was skills learnt here that paved the way for setting up my company that still today leads the way in delivering all manner of sound, lighting and AV equipment rental and production.The unfortunate fact was that when my company did realise the potential of the market for corporate event theatre it left me with little time to keep a band together so a spin off of being an AV pioneer is my ability to VJ images for large dance parties and performances. 20 years ago I called myself a VJ and little did I know at the time that this name would stick and today VJ's are common place in these type of events. SLOPPERVJ is my stage name and I am well sort after to deliver these effects still. Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto & Carl Cox being some of the biggest names I have worked with recently.
