Peter Whitehead

Peter is an urban planner / architect with over 35 years’ experience working in multi-disciplinary practices in the UK and overseas including projects in: Indonesia; Jordan; India; Saudi Arabia; Hong Kong; Oman; Bahrain; China; UAE; Qatar; Malawi; Jamaica; Ghana; Uganda; Libya; and Germany. He has extensive experience of the masterplanning of major development projects and dealing with large-scale, complex sites. He has participated in development planning at a range of scales from national strategies to detailed proposals for individual sites and facilities, involving co-ordinating the layout of buildings, public spaces, infrastructure, highways and landscape in urban and rural areas. Specific projects include: National Development Plans on behalf of UNWTO in Ghana and Uganda; Provincial Tourism Strategies for: Musandam, Oman; Riyadh and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Southern Coastal Zone, Jamaica; Heilongjiang, China and a wide range of strategic and detailed design studies, conceptual designs, and masterplans for individual sites including: Borobudur, Indonesia; Patalanga, India; and Kudonbol Island in the Red Sea. He has designed and managed projects for residential developments, business parks, inner city mixed-use sites, transport and movements corridors, public open spaces and many mixed-use tourism and leisure proposals. He has worked very closely with local, regional and national planning and environmental authorities to produce strategies and schemes that are responsive to their context, resolve wide-ranging technical and environmental criteria - and are commercially viable as well as physically achievable. Many projects involve design guides and / or design coding to provide a template for development and to ensure the high quality and sustainability of design solutions, including a Design Guide for the Blaenavon World Heritage Site. He has provided urban design training to planning authorities and is a visiting lecturer at the Oxford Brookes School of Architecture, on International Regeneration and Development.
