Phil Hatcher

Described as a serial entrepreneur, forward thinker and recently a “Changemaker” by the Government of Nova Scotia. Phil owns and operates Very Local Greens Farm. Located in downtown Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, the farm grows mainly leafy greens, herbs and edible flowers. VLG is a unique urban farm that grows hydroponically year round inside shipping containers. The farms have been engineered to provide a controllable growing environment to match the optimal conditions of each crop. VLG is excited to see controlled environment agriculture become more popular in Nova Scotia and around the world. Collaborating and consulting, using his knowledge of urban indoor farming to explore ways to decentralize food production through technology, engagement and education, Phil also works with Farmbox Foods to expand this technology around the world.
