About

Phil has joined Geosyntec who he worked closely with in his role as the Jemena Project Manager for the Kendall Bay Sediment Remediation Project. The project was State Significant Development (SSD) and involved the remediation of legacy impact in Kendall Bay associated with the former Mortlake gasworks (the largest former gasworks in the Southern Hemisphere). The Project is understood to be the first full-scale In Situ Stabilisation (ISS) of sediment using subaqueous mass mixing techniques for environmental purposes. Remediation was required immediately adjacent to a high density residential development. Subaqueous ISS was selected as the preferred remediation technology to manage impact to the community and the environment. Phil managed the trial works as well as completion/exhibition of the EIS and associated consultation with a long list of Government and Community stakeholders. The full scale works began in Sept 2019 and were successfully completed at the end of 2020. Phil was ultimately responsible for ensuring compliance with Consent Conditions/EPL/TfNSW Licence as well as delivering to budget/schedule. The innovative remediation works were completed under budget, ahead of schedule and with great feedback received from government regulators and the community. Phil previously worked as an environmental consultant, with over 10 years of experience in environmental site assessment and remediation, as a site supervisor and as a project manager. As an environmental consultant he worked on a wide range of projects for a varied client base, including Caltex, Sydney Water, NSW Transport (RailCorp), TfNSW, Department of Defence, Waste Assets Management Corporation, Mirvac and SUEZ Australia. Phil has been involved with Caltex Service Station and Depot site assessments, remediation and validation, and was the project manager of large scale remediation and validation programs at regional Caltex depot sites. He has also been responsible for the project management of weather stations, groundwater and surface water monitoring programs for landfill sites throughout the Sydney region. Phil has extensive experience working at the Caltex Terminal Kurnell (formerly Caltex Refinery Kurnell), completing work regularly for the site for 10 years. He has been involved in a wide variety of environmental services for the site including quarterly groundwater monitoring, supervision of large scale remediation system install, remediation system monitoring and maintenance, soil vapour surveys and per- and poly-fluoroanlkyl substances (PFAS) investigation.
