Philippe Michel

Philippe Michel, MD, PhD, is based in Lyon. He is professor of public health and the quality and safety and member of the U1290 INSERM Reshape. He is quality, safety and custumer director of the Lyon hospital, second-largest University Hospital Network in France. He his founding-president of the French Institute of Patient Experience (IFEP) and past founding-president of the French quality and safety professional association (IQS). At national level, he was president of the Healthcare System and Patient Safety Commission at the High Council for Public Health (HCSP), an advisory body for the Minister of Health. Also member of the scientific board of the French National Health Insurance Fund (CNAMTS). He was formerly the director of the Regional Centre for Quality and Safety, Bordeaux France (CCECQA) and president of the Federation of the regional centre of quality and safety in France (FORAP). The CCECQA developed and validated the patient satisfaction survey questionnaire, which is now routinely used in the French hospital as a mandatory annual survey on patient satisfaction. The CCECQA also developed and validated the first healthcare job satisfaction questionnaire. His research topics are in the patient safety and quality indicators domains. He was in charge of the two National surveys on adverse events in France in 2004 and 2009 (ENEIS). Regular WHO expert in Patient Safety and External lead of a WHO project on Patient Safety Research methodologies.
