About

I am a licensed psychiatrist (Belgium/Spain), trained at the University Psychiatric Centre KU Leuven in Leuven/Kortenberg, Belgium (2010-2018). I also hold a Master Degree in Statistics (KU Leuven University, Belgium), with particular expertise in psychiatric-epidemiological research, missing data techniques, and development and validation of risk screening algorithms. I am currently a post-doctoral researcher at the Health Services Research Group of the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute (IMIM; Barcelona, Spain), having been awarded a three-year Sara Borrell post-doctoral fellowship grant from the Department of Science and Innovation of the Spanish Government. Given my background in both clinical patient care as well as psychiatric-epidemiological research, I am currently answering competitive research calls that enable to advance the field of psychiatric epidemiology, clinical psychiatry and translational psychiatry. My research objectives include assessing the feasibility of advanced risk prediction algorithms for low-probability psychiatric events (including suicide) with regard to day-to-day clinical decision-making and patient care, to implementation within data-driven healthcare systems, and to policymaking. I am an active collaborator in the World Mental Health Survey Initiative, coordinated by dr. Ronald C. Kessler from Harvard Medical School, providing a multidisciplinary network of over 150 international leading researchers in psychiatric epidemiology. I am associated with the Centre for Public Health Psychiatry, Department of Neurosciences, KU Leuven University, Leuven, Belgium, and am a member of CIBER in Epidemiology and Public Health (CIBERESP), the largest public health research network in Spain.
