A humble fisherman to a research scientist? Could my story be of interest for you? I was born and raised in a small and isolated town, where “higher education” wasn’t considered a real option. Thus, after high school I joined my family business, working as a fisherman for 5 years. However, I never felt content with this choice or that I could fulfill my potential, and decided to go to university to study biology. My fascination with the subject led me to do my Masters, my PhD and two postdoc positions, which I have thoroughly enjoyed. Since I have transitioned to the industrial R&D sector I am fulfilling my ambition of having a higher impact, both scientifically and on society. • Creative molecular cell biologist with a keen interest in genetic diseases, with extensive knowledge in the fields of molecular genetics and protein biochemistry and a result-oriented mindset, as evidenced by 11 high ranked scientific publications. • Effective communicator with an approachable personality, which has helped me in building and maintaining collaborations for successful research projects and in establishing a steadily growing international network. The ability to communicate difficult concepts in an accessible way, together with my adept writing skills has helped me gather > 1,400,000.00 USD in research grants. • Adaptable and quick to learn as evidenced by the successful transition from fisherman to biotech researcher. I'm always interested in expanding my professional network and I’d love to connect with professionals from diverse backgrounds and discuss current trends in both biomedical and biotechnological research.
