Priit Pirsko

Priit Pirsko, an historian and archivist by training, has been acting in management of national memory institutions for more than two decades. Since 2000 he has been leading the National Archives of Estonia as Director General. For the last fifteen years have his main accomplishments concentrated on the institutional reforms as well as technical improvements in the field of archives management. He has been one of the main authors of current Archives Act of Estonia (2011), establishing the archival principles for digital records management. He is a board member of several national institutions of cultural heritage. He has been teaching and lecturing on archival theory, archives management as well as history at Tartu University since 1988. He is an author of more than 30 scientific publications concerning the particular aspects of archival theory, history of archives, but also historical demography and economic history of the 19th century.
